SolidWorks 2007 Tutorial - Simple Part and Drawing Creation

Part 1A

  • start a new Part
  • click the Sketch (Sketch commands) button
  • click the Sketch button to the right
  • select the top plane
  • click the Rectangle button
  • choose the first point at the origin and the other above and to the right somewhere
  • click the Select button
  • click the Smart Dimensions button
  • choose the top line and create a dimension above it and make the amount: 3
  • do the same for the line on the right
  • click the Exit Sketch button
  • click the Features (Feature commands) button
  • make sure you rectangle lines are show green if they are not then select the sketch in the list on the left
  • click Extruded Boss/Base button
  • change the depth to: .5
  • click on the OK button

Part1B - Circlular cut on top face 

  • click the Sketch (Sketch commands) button
  • click the Sketch button to the right
  • select the top face of the extruded box
  • click the Line button
  • draw the line from the midpoint of the top line to the midpoint of the bottom line
  • click the Select button
  • click on the line that was just drawn
  • click on the View list and then select Normal To
  • in the Line Properties on the left locate the For construction check box and check it
  • click the Circle button
  • start the circle at the midpoint of the line
  • click the Smart Dimensions button
  • choose the circle and create a diameter dimension of: 1.5
  • click the Features (Feature commands) button
  • click Extruded Cut button
  • click on the View list and then select Isometric
  • chance Direction 1 End Condition to Through All
  • click on the OK button

Part1C - Fillets

  • click the Features (Feature commands) button
  • click on the Fillet button
  • select the 4 vertical edges
  • change the fillet radius to: .5
  • click on the OK button
  • save the part as MPart1

Part1D - Creating a drawing

  • click the Annotations (Annotation commands) button
  • dimension the Top and Front view
  • you might need to move the view so that the dimensions will fit inside the page
  • click on Make Drawing from Part/Assembly
  • choose "A- Landscape"
  • click OK
  • from the View Palette drag out a Top view
  • below the top view create a front view
  • click the Drawings (Drawing commands) button
  • click on Model View
  • click on the Next button
  • make sure the Isometric button is clicked
  • click to the right of the two views to create the isometric view
  • click OK
  • save the drawing as MDraw1
